MISS LAOWAI CHINA

Miss Laowai China Pageant is a cultural exchange platform organized at this magnitude to encompass the interest of both Chinese and Foreigners in China. While it calls for participation of female foreigners in China, its main aim is to promote friendship and understanding of the way of life in China through the eyes of foreign beauty and revealed in talent about Things Chinese. This platform allows the women to show how savoir-faire they are in China life. In their daily life they are goal-oriented and aware of the importance of Chinese culture on the global scale. Therefore, delegates who become part of the Miss Laowai China Organization will display the characteristics and aspirations from their everyday lives. Miss Laowai China is therefore a conduit through which they will compete with hope of advancing their careers, personal and humanitarian goals, and also release their kindred spirit to improve the lives of others.

 

Miss Laowai China aims at creating role models and champions in beauty, purity and culture for many outstanding young foreign women who seek personal development through small help groups and outreach programmes. This beauty pageant is an artistic celebration of natural beauty, and a showcase of culture and heritage which seeks to promote and combine physical and inner beauty together with culture pride.

 

The Miss Laowai China competition exists for the purpose of providing personal and professional opportunities for young foreign women and promoting their voice in culture, social and community development. Miss Laowai China provides a snapshot of cultural and social identities and serves the purpose of strengthening community cohesiveness and promoting cultural understanding between China and all foreign countries.  It also aims at highlighting the Rich Cultural Heritage of the various participating Countries.

 

Miss Laowai China is not only a beauty pageant like a glorified fashion show, but it is also a competition that changes lives and brings unlimited opportunities to both participants and the community around them - it’s a cultural exchange. It’s a portal for foreigners in China to showcase their own country’s rich culture at the same time show what they know or have learnt about China’s rich culture during the time they spend in China. The pageant aims at giving young foreign ladies born or living in China aplatform to showcase not only their beauty, but most of importantly their culture, talent, and creativity. The peageant is highly competitive and seeks to bring out those leadership qualities in women.  

It calls for all those with talent, hidden or shown. Its main objective is to give an opportunity to all those who missed a chance of being prom queens, beauty queens, top models or even those who would like to give it a shot in the entertainment business. The main aim is to showcase “Things Chinese” through foreigners living in China.

 

The crowned Miss Laowai China is an ambassador of diversity and a positive role model. She helps extend peoples knowledge of her country, and she bridges China and Foreign culture. Miss Laowai is the dual intent single foreign voice representing foreign cultural interest in China and local culture to the foreigners. The winner of Miss Laowai China Pageant will dedicate a full year as an International Spokesperson, Advocacy for Inspiring a Renewed Interest her country, and creating awareness on Social, Cultural, Health and Wealth.

 

Our objective is to be able to provide fair competition where young ladies can develop self-esteem and confidence while having fun and meeting new people.

 

We intend to work with television stations, modelling agencies and advertising companies and magazines by providing them with models and also co-operate with charitable organizations.

Of course, the competition itself will run like a normal beauty pageant, but with a few twists. Have we mentioned that you have to have Chinese talent?

 

All participants will be judged in the following categories:

 

1.       Chinese Talent - Participant will perform by herself and can sing, dance, play instrument, etc (for maximum of 4 minutes

2.       Personality & National Outfit - Personality-participants introduces herself and includes all information from "Education and Accomplishments" (within 2 minutes)

3.       Country of Origin Talent - Participants will showcase their own country’s culture in dance, sing, poem etc

4.       Evening Gown
- Participants walks in style long gown (Dress)

5.       Question & Answer
- Participants answer randomly selected question within 2 minute

6.       Posture, Composure, Presentation (eye contact, smile etc)

       The next Miss Laowai China pageant will be held in August 2011 in Beijing, China.

3.       Can anyone apply for the Miss Laowai China contest? What are the criteria to participate?

Any Foreign female living in legally resident in China can apply to participate in the pageant.       The criteria are stipulated on our website: http://www.misslaowaichina.org 

4.       Why are these criteria so flexible?

The winner of the Miss Laowai China Pageant will be representing a wide range of foreign interest in China. These would include endorsements and modelling contracts in China and abroad. She will be the spokesperson for Miss Laowai China during her one year reign.

6.       How will the applicant know if they are picked to represent their country?

The applicant will be contacted informing them of the receipt of their application and then at the close of the application period, they will receive an email notifying them if they make it to the short list. They will also receive a notice of the date of their professional photo shoot.

7.       Are there plans to hold the pageant in other places?

There are plans already to hold the Miss Laowai China pageant in other parts of China such as Shanghai, Guangdong province, Hong Kong, Macau and other historical places of interest.

8.   What does the winner win in the pageant?

The crown of Miss Laowai China title and recognition by the Chinese Ministry of Culture, as foreign culture ambassador, and up to four other major prizes apart from endorsements and contracts. Details of the prizes will be announced later.

9.   Will Miss Laowai China pageant be held annually?

Yes, it will be held annually except in case of formidable circumstances.

10.   Who sponsors the pageant?
